A safe and popular anti-ageing procedure
Brow elevation by Botulinum toxin injections (commonly known as Botox) can improve the shape of the brow arch and position of eye brows. Eyes appear more relaxed, refreshed & wider. The Botulinum toxin brow lift, or chemical lift, is becoming a popular anti-ageing procedure for men and women who have a mild to moderate heaviness in the brow area and don’t want to undergo surgery.
What is Botox?
Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) is a protein produced by Bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It relaxes muscles by temporarily blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces the muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles. The cosmetic effect of Botox was first documented as early as 1989 and was approved by the FDA in 2002. It is now regularly used by many, both male and female, as it is less intrusive and less artificial in appearance than a traditional form of treatment such as plastic surgery.
How does the treatment work?
The brow lift works by relaxing the muscles above the delicate eye area and smoothing away lines and deep grooves caused by frowning along the lower forehead. When the muscles around the tops of the eyebrows are relaxed the skin appears smoother, more toned and the brows are lifted and youthful.
Who can benefit from the treatment?
The brow lift can be performed on all skin types, and may be particularly effective for people who have naturally-droopy eyelids and low-hanging eyebrows. The brow lift literally ‘lifts’ the skin tissue above and around the eyebrows so that the natural eyebrow arch is a few millimeters higher.
What does the treatment involve?
Before the treatment: A thorough consultation is carried out by our specialist Doctor to determine whether the treatment is suitable for you. The doctor may examine your ability to move certain muscles to determine location, size and use of the muscles that create your wrinkles. A treatment goal will be discussed and finally a customised treatment plan will be tailored to your needs.
The treatment: No anaesthesia is required. However, for your own comfort the doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anaesthetic cream. Any make-up will be removed and the skin disinfected. Our specialist doctor will then study your facial muscles as individuals can differ. A few tiny injections of Botulinum toxin will be administered directly into the muscles that cause the drooping of the eyelids/brows. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes for the entire treatment.
After the treatment: For at least 4 hours: Keep upright/ do not bend excessively. For 12 hours after the treatment: Avoid extreme facial expressions, avoid excessive alcohol consumption, and avoid wearing heavy make-up. For 2 weeks after the treatment: Avoid exposure to strong sunlight and very cold temperatures. Avoid stimulating facials/ facial massage. A full instruction after care sheet will be discussed with you before the treatment begins.
Are there any side effects?
Injection related side effects are minimal and temporary such as redness, swelling, bruising etc. Spreading of the Botulinum toxin to surrounding muscles can easily be prevented by NOT rubbing or touching the treated area(s) for approximately 4 hours post treatment. Any reactions are generally minimal, temporary and typically relate to the injection itself.
Am I suitable for the treatment?
Only you together with the Doctor can decide if the treatment is the one for you. During your consultation, our expert Doctor will assess your medical history and make sure that you are suitable for the treatment. Be sure to inform the doctor about any pre-existing medical condition such as:
- A disease that affects your muscles and nerves such as Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton Syndrome
- Allergies to any Botulinum toxin products
- Medication that you are taking
- If you’ve had facial surgery or plan to have surgery
- Pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast feeding
How long will the results last?
On average 4-6 months. In order to achieve the best eye brow lift, it is recommended to have the treatment regularly every 4 months.
What will happen if I stop having Botulinum toxin injections?
Your eyebrows will go back to where they were. You can stop and start having treatment again whenever you prefer providing that you are suitable.
How much does the brow lift treatment cost?
Prices start from £199
