Soften facial expressions and reverse the signs of ageing!
Continual stresses from external or internal factors can contribute to the temporary lines and wrinkles that form on your facial skin. Over a course of time these fine lines can progress into something more prominent making one look tired, serious/stern and often simply aged.
Botulinum toxin, commonly known by one of its trade names as Botox is a prescription medicine that is injected to relax the underlying muscles preventing the action and creation of wrinkles with age.
Our specialist Doctor is registered and holds a license to practice with the General Medical Council. She is a highly experienced Botox specialist Doctor and has performed more than 15,000 treatments over 14 years. Our patients always compliment our Doctors’ professional, safe and gentle approach.
What is Botox?
Botox (Botulinum toxin) is a purified protein produced by Bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It relaxes muscles by temporarily blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces the muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles.
The cosmetic effect of Botox was first documented as early as 1989 and was approved by the FDA in 2002. It is now regularly used by many, both male and female, as it is less intrusive and less artificial in appearance than a traditional form of treatment such as plastic surgery.
What areas can be treated?
There are various applications that can be treated:
- Frown lines
- Crow’s feet lines around the eyes
- Forehead lines
- Eye brow lifting
- Droopy mouth corners
- Gummy smiles
- Smoking lies around the mouth
What does the treatment involve?
Before the treatment: A thorough consultation is carried out by our specialist Doctor to determine whether the treatment is suitable for you. The doctor may examine your ability to move certain muscles to determine location, size and use of the muscles that create your wrinkles. A treatment goal will be discussed and finally a customised treatment plan will be tailored to your needs.
The treatment: No anaesthesia is required. However, for your own comfort the doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anaesthetic cream. Any make-up will be removed and the skin disinfected. Our specialist doctor will then study your facial muscles as individuals can differ. A few tiny injections of Botox will be administered directly into the muscles that cause those lines and wrinkles. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes for the entire treatment.
After the treatment: For at least 4 hours: Keep upright/ do not bend excessively. For 12 hours after the treatment: Avoid extreme facial expressions, avoid excessive alcohol consumption, and avoid wearing heavy make-up. For 2 weeks after the treatment: Avoid exposure to strong sunlight and very cold temperatures. Avoid stimulating facials/ facial massage.
Are there any side effects?
Injection related side effects are minimal and temporary such as redness, swelling, bruising etc. Spreading of the Botox to surrounding muscles can easily be prevented by NOT rubbing or touching the treated area(s) for approximately 4 hours post treatment. Any reactions are generally minimal, temporary and typically relate to the injection itself.
How long will the results last?
On average 4-6 months. In order to achieve the best prevention of aging lines, it is recommended to have the treatment regularly every 4 months
Am I suitable to have the treatment?
Only you together with the Doctor can decide if the treatment is suitable for you. During your consultation, our expert Botox Doctor will assess your medical history and make sure that you are suitable for the treatment. Be sure to inform the doctor about any pre-existing medical condition such as:
- A disease that affects your muscles and nerves such as Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert- Eaton Syndrome
- Allergies to any Botulinum toxin products
- Medication that you are taking
- If you’ve had facial surgery or plan to have surgery
- Pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast feeding
What will happen if I stop having Botox?
The relaxant effect of the Botox will wear off over time and you can effectively continue or discontinue at any time. This being said regular treatment will prevent those deeper, more permanent lines that appear with age. As they say, “Prevention is better than cure”.
Will I have a frozen look?
The treatment result is completely up to you. The doctor will discuss and tailor the treatment to your desired preference.
